[Early Years:]
Jay Chou grew in a small town in Linkou, Taiwan where both his parents were secondary school teachers. His mother, Ye Hui Mei taught fine arts while his father Zhou Yao Zhong was a biology instructor.
His mother noticed Jay has interest in music so she starts taking him to piano lesson beginning at the age of four. During his childhood, he was fascinated of the sounds and song he was recording with his tape recorder, something he carries everywhere along with him. By third grade, he became even more interested in music and started taking cello lessons. As an only child, he enjoys being in the center of the family’s attention. He loves to play on the piano, imitate TV actors, and perform magic tricks.
By the time he was at the age of fourteen, his parents divorced. As a result, he became very reclusive and isolated. Even though he had friends, he often prefer being along listening to music and daydreaming. During high school, he majored in piano and minor in cello. He then began fond of music and started writing his own songs.
[The Road to Fame:]
Jay Chou is a World Music Award winning Taiwanese musician, singer, producer, actor and director. During the year of 1998, he was first discovered in a talent competition where he revealed his piano and song writing skills. He then went on to being hired to compose music for other popular Chinese singers as a song writer.
Being trained in all expects of music, he combined Chinese and Western style music to produce songs that fuses around R&B, rock, and pop genres. Most of his song he has written covers the issues between domestic violence, war, and urbanization. While other covers issues between families.
In 2000, Jay released his first album called Jay under the record company, Alfa Music. Since then, he has released one album per year, selling millions of albums around the globe.
His music has gained recognition throughout Asia such as countries like: China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and other Asian countries. Now, Jay is a well-known international superstar.
His career now extends into directing and running his own record company, JVR Music.
