In the not so distant past I enjoyed a great profusion of activity. I weaved fables with words. I conjured electronic harmonies which I performed on my dual gramophone contraption. Sometimes I'd sit at a table and roll dice or shuffle cards. I was engaged in a protracted fight with the powers that be. I thought in prolific quantity and was known to wax philosophic. I engaged in debate constantly and enthusiastically. From time to time I attended rock shows. But now I am a university professor, employ a rich vernacular but suffer a dearth of leisure time. I had too many friends - who grow ever more vexed with me as I repeatedly fail to return their calls.

Mercenaries" who were wielding kitchen knives and duck hooks at a Chinese
restaurant. I think the fight might have started when I said "If you guys
are so 'traditional' then why do you rely so heavily on kitchen knives and
duck hooks?" And they said "Well that's why we added the word 'Mercenaries'
to the end of our gang name. Duh." So I said "That's the lamest rationale
I've ever heard. You guys suck." Or it could have all started when Zach
began innocently talking to them about his theory on how gangs who use duck
hooks and kitchen knives are generally poor and weak-willed fighters who are
easy to beat up. He just wanted to discuss his theory with them (since they
had firsthand experience and all) but they may have taken it the wrong way
(something about honor). I forget how it all played out, but I'm sorry about
it either way. I guess in the end we were both right.

and clamoring for brains. zach is the
person you want at your back. even if
the monsters are a metaphor for pain,
loneliness, fear, or the past coming
back to haunt you.
fun, creative, great with kids, cute,
unashamedly a little bit nerdy. Being a
writer automatically puts him in the
sensitive category.
Of course, we haven't had a deep talk
in several years, but he's also steady
(not in a boring way, more in a
continually evolving way), so i am
fairly certain these all still apply
(unless he's recently gone on a child-
abusing spree that I don't know
about, in which case all bets are off).
He once programmed an amazing
Scooby-Doo murder mystery for 11-
year olds and we only had a few kids
go home scared that night.
