      • I met Mara on Date1 (the website for intimate dating). She said she was a man. I said I was a woman. As it turns out, we were both wrong.

      • I met Mara in the hallway of her old apartment on the night of the Toothpaste Spectacular one year. I had heard about it because i'm on the Crest mailing list, so I figured I'd check it out. Holy crap, dudes. It was one of the best nights of my life. Who'd think that a mouthwash + Courvoisier shot would go down so smooth? Damn, this girl is the freshest thing out there, and I know fresh, people. I thought I'd seen the wildest things down at Laguna Beach, but this party was incredible. I get the feeling that a few more Whitening Strips and I'll be inducted into the Toothpaste Hall of Fame, so I'll TOTALLY be back next year. Clean on, dudes.

      • i didn't really understand mara until we'd already been having the toothpaste spectacular for about 3 years... i guess it was 1994. it's about 6 in the morning after the party, this dude next to her is completely mummified in floss, and she's face down on the ground with her face BURIED in some sort of gel-paste hybrid. i don't know if she's alive, passed out, sleeping... i can't tell. so i lean down, and the smell of mint is overwhelming. i'm like "mara"? and, without raising her head, she says "dude?" and i'm like "yeah?" she says, through this puddle of 'paste: "dude, that was fucking specTACular." amazing. i haven't had a cavity since.

into a sitcom universe parallel to our
normal existence. The more time you
spend with her, the more the events
around you begin to resemble what you
would previously have imagined to be
        contrived and implausible comic
        situations only possible within the
laws of a television farce. You may
attempt to escape this universe, but
by that point you've become one of
        Mara's "special guests", and the
        producers demand your repeated
presence on the show. So you stick
around, because it's funny as hell,
and it's a pretty nice perk to hear
        the audience burst into applause
        whenever you enter the room.

If a good friend comes to me and
says, "Thank you, Mark, for the
        opportunity and continued support in
the friend-related arena, but I've done
that, I wanna better myself, I wanna
move on," then I can make that dream
come true, AKA, for you ... by
recommending Mara as a new friend.

bar Japas 38 that Mara Kay Levinsky
        captured my heart. I watched,
dumbfounded, as she clutched the mike
in a seductive death grip, her voice
soaring to the sounds of Hall & Oates,
and I knew without a shadow of a doubt
that I would forever be in this
spitfire's spell. But it was when we
dueted on the immortal "The Girl Is
        Mine that my life changed
        irrevocably. The crowd was utterly
captivated by the raw, naked emotion
        on display during that unforgettably
        gripping performance,
        Levinsky/McCartney dazzling with an
        exquisitely calibrated combination of
lusty verve and British grace. My
Friendster photo was taken in the
        heady aftermath of that performance,
and for that I will be eternally
        grateful. McCartney, indeed.

        Mara. The times we shared--from
giggling about air pollution in the
Baldwin bathroom to karaoke at Vets to
        wandering the island of Manhattan
        together--were potent, poignant, and
utterly loaded with genius and wit that
        any regular schmo simply cannot
fathom. She's on my top five list of
People Who Have Changed My Life, right
between Wesley Willis and Norm Paulin.

was the wild and crazy outgoing girl
anyone would want to know! She was a
continuous party, a comidienne and the
originator of many a good time. Anyone
would be lucky to spend time in Mara's
presence because she makes you smile and
makes you feel like everything's going
to be just super-cool. She's also
        brilliant and multi-talented, a great
        combination.

      • My early experience with Mara consisted
of some fabulous Salt n Pepa
        renditions, a strange greeting
involving a blank stare and a palm in
the middle of my chest, and a weird
party trick with her breasts. It only
        got better from there.
