Jason René Castro - a Colombian-American, singer and was the 4th place finalist on the seventh season of the television series, American Idol.


Born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in Rowlett, Texas,he currently resides in Rockwall, Texas. He attended Vernon Schrade Middle School as a child.His parents, René & Betsi Castro, are Colombian, and he is the first person in his family to be born in the United States, followed by younger siblings Michael & Jackie. Their father, René Castro, is an Architect. Castro plays guitar and grew up playing drums. He did not begin singing until he was in college. Castro attended Rowlett High School and graduated in 2005. He was a member of the high school soccer team.



Castro was a junior majoring in construction science at Texas A&M University and had no formal training before auditioning for American Idol.

Appeared in the music video Hanging On by Cheyenne Kimball
Featured on MTV's reality show Cheyenne.



Previous musical experience: Drummer for the band Keeping Lions (previously named Charlemagne). Began playing guitar his Freshman year in college

What are your personal goals in life?
To be a loving father, a faithful husband and a servant of all.



When were you happiest and why?
Up to now in my life, the happiest time was when I was the drummer in a band called "Keeping Lions". There, I learned more about life and music and grew in so many ways and had four best friends.



If you have 24 hours to do whatever you wanted, what would you do?
Spend a day by a beach far away with the one I love (don't have one yet).

What's been your toughest obstacle in life?
A broken heart has been the toughest obstacle. No good. Never again

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I wouldn't mind being a little taller...or a straighter nose. Haha.



If you couldn't sing, which talent would you most like to have?
Either the talent of good speech or be some sort of athlete, maybe a soccer player. Ya.

I play drums, guitar and love any artistic stuff like drawing, painting, building...and soccer
