M. Nasir still top composer
KUALA LUMPUR: M. Nasir was named the top composer during the Music Authors’ Copyright Protection (MACP) Award ceremony for the sixth consecutive year.

He defeated Adnan Abu Hassan and Edry B. Abdul Halim, who were also nominated for the category, at this year's awards event here on Saturday.

The MACP Award is given to the country’s top royalty earners in the music industry, based on MACP’s annual royalty distribution list.

At the ceremony, Ng Chea Hwei, whose songs have been performed by the likes of Jackie Cheung, Leon Lai, Karen Mok, Yanzi, Gigi Leung and Canya Chua, was named the most-promising young composer, a category honouring composers aged under 25.

The Nadi Cipta title was given to Freddie Fernandez for his support and contribution to the MACP and music industry, while Rosli Khamis, who is also known as Loloq, was named top lyricist.

The most-performed Malay song was Rela Ku Pujuk (sung by Spider, and composed and written by M. Nasir and Loloq), while the most-performed Chinese song was Tong Hua (sung, composed and written by Michael Wong).

The most-performed local English song was Misty (sung by Cromok, and composed and written by Shamsudin B. Ali, Tarmizi B. Mokhtar & Khairul Anuar B. Shariff).
