      • I was 9 or 10 and saw pictures of one
of her exhibits in what must have
        been Life and remember really
        responding to them. Her family
survived World War II in Japan. They
moved out of the city and lived in the
country and were starving, but she
        survived using her imagination.

She's a brilliant conceptual artist who
is not afraid to take chances, to be
true to herself, or to have her own
voice. She encourages me to do my
        own little thing.

      • About Me:

It all began in Japan, 1933. A child was born that would change the
world. But how? Would she strive for world peace, redefine the art
community, become a musical prodigy? Or would her defining moment
come from her personal life? Could a woman who was, and still is,
accomplishing things never done before be remembered by allegations
and rumor? Such a thing would be an incredible misrepresentation of the
talent of Yoko Ono. Yet, still today she is seen by many as one thing: the
person who broke up the Beatles. But what Yoko did, in actuality, is
someting much larger and difficult than that feat alone.

Throughout her artistic career, Yoko Ono has always broken boundries
and challenged everyday thought. But while doing this, she opened
herself up to the world, often bearing her naked body and soul to
expand the minds of the everyday person. Through positive thought and
the belief in the genuine spirit of this world and the people who reside in
it, Yoko is able to channel a rare form of energy that is felt by those who
are looking for it. Though rebellious against the rules of society, she has
the ability to make an impact on the viewer by using rules that they have
set for themselves in their own life. By looking at small, seemingly
insignificant details of life, she is able to make harsh social
commentaries and show the beauty of this world to all that seem to miss
        it on a regular basis.

Whether or not Yoko Ono is a blessing or curse to rock 'n roll music is an
issue that can not be resolved easily. One thing that must be pointed out
is that following the break-up of the Betles the world was looking for a
scapegoat -- and they chose Yoko Ono. Despite how this has changed
her life and her legacy, she has continued on just the way she always
has. She held the weight of the world's blame and let rock 'n roll rebuild
itself again. Without her strength who knows what would have
happened. One thing is for sure, that girl is magic and she saved rock 'n
roll. If that's not soul, who knows what is.

        - excerpt from John Wilkes Booze 'Five Pillars of Soul' CD, 2004, Kill Rock Stars Records

      • Who I Want to Meet:

"I believe in people so much that if the world is burned so we don't have
any memory of it, even then people will start to build their own art. It is
        a necessity -- a function"
