About Me:
The only writer ever to have three novels in a row hit #1 on the New York Times' best-seller list; there are over twenty-million copies of my most famous novel, the tawdry "Valley of the Dolls", in print; in the Guinness Book of World Records, "Valley of the Dolls" is tied with "Gone with the Wind" and "To Kill a Mockingbird" as the best-selling novels of all time by a female writer.

"The temperature hit ninety degrees the
day she arrived. New York was
steaming -- an angry concrete animal
caught unawares in an unseasonable
hot spell. But she didn't mind the heat or
the littered midway called Times
Square. She thought New York was the
most exciting city in the world."
Gotta get off, gonna get
Have to get off from this ride
Gotta get hold, gonna get
Need to get hold of my pride
When did I get, where did I
How was I caught in this game
When will I know, where will I
How will I think of my name
reckoning. It was quite a long train ride, and
gave me sufficient time to think things out. If I
want to write, there's only one thing to do -
write. I have enclosed the keys to my house
- it's the one practical thing I can do for you.
And I did inherit all the furniture due to your
largess. Don't do anything silly like waiting
for me. I warn you - I shall marry the first
plump English maiden who will cook and
tend for me. And years from now, if I do
turn out any book that is halfway good, we
can both say "At least there was something
he did whole-heartedly" I loved you Jackie,
But you are too wonderful to accept such a
small part of a small person who tried to
scatter himself in so many directions. So I
shall concentrate on writing - at least in that
way I can hurt no one but myself.
Somewhere in your wonderful New York ,
my dearest, there is the right person for you.
Hollywood, with a few words regarding
my very dear friend, Jackie. Several
years ago, Jackie and I were sharing a
limestone salad at "21", discussing our
favorite mutual topic: pill-popping
sluts. I was sharing some of my
favorite memories from my MGM days,
particularly regarding what those
monsters did to poor stupid, stupid
Judy Garland. Jackie was intrigued, to
say the least. She borrowed a steno
pad from Walter Winchell at the next
table, and began taking copious notes.
Over the next few weeks, we met almost
daily, as I regailed her with horror
stories, and she took notes. The
vodka, I must admit, flowed freely. I
thought nothing more of our little
sessions until she told me she had
written a little book, this time not
about her goddamn dog, and I had served
as the basis for a character within
named "Helen". I never had time to
read it, but I hear it did quite well.
first of all, that I have absolutely no criticisms
to make of this book. It is perfect, and I'm not
just saying that because I practically
memorized it at the age of 13 and it was one
of my primary illicit sources of sexual
information in the gap between information
and experience, and I therefore view it with
fond nostalgia... Basically this book posits a
set of conditions in which the only response
to the female condition is heavy sedation." --

Darling I just want to thank you SO
MUCH for creating a character like
Neely O'Hara! Thanks to your original
concept, I play the role of Neely 8
times a week, in Valley of the Dolls:
The Musical. We've adapted the story a
bit so that it's appropriate for an
African American woman to play Neely,
but I'm SURE you'd approve. If you're
ever in California, you should let me
know cause I'll leave some tickets for
you at Will Call. You'll LOVE this
version of your book...unlike the
movie, you won't walk out on this!

ENOUGH.
I've read everything you have ever done
even that Scifi thing you did. I loved
every one of them! My dream is that I
may become at least an eighth as famous
as you. I think that would be all I
could handle.
