Aedes Christi: the largest of Oxford's thirty-nine colleges, and the only Oxbridge college whose chapel is also a Cathedral. Founded in 1525 and refounded in 1546 on the site of the monastery of St Frideswide, Christ Church is the monarch's official residence in Oxford. Charles I made his home here during the Civil War and held his parliament in the Great Hall.

Disinguished former members include Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll), John Locke, Albert Einstein, W H Auden, William Penn, John and Charles Wesley, and thirteen former prime ministers (more than any other college at Oxford or Cambridge).
