ABOUT SAKNIDAS:
“Maghanda ka! Maghanda ka sa kanyang pagdating! Tayo’y kanyang lilipulin upang maging alipin!” These are the lines that without doubt will catch your attention after you hear the song “ALIPIN” by the band Saknidas.
SAKNIDAS is a striving band that was formed around 2005 by the vocalist Eulogio “Kadji” Angeles, Jr. who was also the lyricist of the band. The band was formed due to the interest of Kadji and Angelo Yap to work together and produce heavier songs. Kadji was strongly influenced by the 90’s rock scene. He was fond of listening to Wolfgang and Electric Skychurch, while Angelo who has influenced by rock music in a very young age cooperates on putting guitar riffs to Kadji’s creations. The band with its original members ; Marby Villafrancam, Heherson Obaña with half-brothers Aaron Sadja and Jeff Balahadja have performed in different bars around Metro Manila. They have tried to enter different Baranggay Battle of the Bands and underground gigs to be able to perform and showcase their talents. The band went to some rough times and decided to rest for a while for some personal reasons.
After the break-up, Angelo with his friend John Michael Enriquez joined a punk band and there they met Tyrone Tolsa, a hard hitting young drummer from Paco, Manila. The three shared the same passion for heavy stuff and begun trading influences to one another.
In late 2006, in some twist of fate, Angelo and Kadji have decided to continue composing songs and pursue the band with its new and current line-up John Michael Enriquez, Tyrone Tolsa and a friend of the band Kristel Casaje, on bass duties. With the band now intact and stronger than ever, Saknidas started to perform at bars and small events again.
Saknidas has three original compositions entitled “Kapalaran”, “Alipin” and “Our Lives” and currently on the course of recording their songs to produce their first EP and recently they have performed in this year’s Fete de la Musique Rock stage that was held at Mall of Asia Open Grounds.
