Simple Plan Rocks the Big Dome

As a rule, we Filipinos love a bargain. We love cut-price sales and buy one, take one promos—which is why Filipino concertgoers are sure to love Rock ‘n Rule 2008.

Watching Rock ‘n Rule 2008 is like watching three different but equally fantastic shows in one night. Imagine, for the price of one ticket you’ll get to watch Simple Plan, Jamie Scott & The Town, and New Found Glory all in one night of slammin’ rock ‘n roll at the Araneta Coliseum on August 4! What better bargain is there?

Simple Plan is a familiar name to Filipino music lovers. The band’s singles have enjoyed massive success in the country. The first single from their self-titled third album, Your Love Is A Lie, is already making waves on Philippine radio. Buoyed by the success of their singles, the band’s albums have also sold well locally. These albums are No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls, Still Not Getting Any and their self-titled third effort, Simple Plan. As if all those weren’t enough, they also released two live albums. However, nothing beats seeing them perform live, as this French-Canadian pop-punk band from Canada brings a different kind of energy to their live performances as opposed to their records.

Jamie Scott is the singer-songwriter—and driving force—behind the band Jamie Scott & The Town. His influences include 70’s artists Cat Stevens and James Taylor, as well as neo-soul artists like D’Angelo. He should be another familiar face, because he also dabbles in acting—his most recent role was in the movie Step Up, which was a big box-office hit in the Philippines. He also sang a song on the movie’s soundtrack, titled Made. His album is set to be released soon.

New Found Glory, meanwhile, needs no long-winded introduction, since they were one of the hardest-rocking bands in the 90’s. As such, their forthcoming studio release—earmarked to hit record stores in February 2009—is one of the most eagerly anticipated releases from a rock band, and to think that it doesn’t even have a title yet! Until then, however, their Filipino fans can content themselves with buying a ticket to Rock ‘n Rule 2008.

Rock ‘n Rule 2008 is the latest offering from Viva Concerts and Events, the company that brought some of the best and brightest foreign acts to the Philippines. This show is hotly tipped to be just as big a crowd-drawer as Viva Concerts and Events’ previous productions, some of which include the first-ever Philippine show by pop-rock band Maroon 5, Black Eyed Peas and My Chemical Romance.

Pop Punk Canadian band Simple Plan will be rocking and ruling the concert stage at the Araneta Coliseum this coming August 2008.

Simple Plan, the band responsible for hits like “I’m Just a Kid”, “I’d Do Anything”, “Addicted”, “Perfect”, “Welcome to My Life”, “Shut Up!”, “Untitled”, “When I’m Gone”, “Your Love Is a Lie” and many more, will be having a concert at the Araneta Coliseum on August 4, 2008, Monday, at 8:00 PM.



New Found Glory formed in mid-1997 in Coral Springs, Florida. Chad Gilbert, former singer of metalcore outfit Shai Hulud became the guitarist, recruiting Jordan Pundik as a singer, Ian Grushka on bass, Steve Klein on guitar and Joe Moreno on drums.

The band’s first release was 1997’s It’s All About the Girls EP on Fiddler Records. Soon after the recording of the EP, Moreno was replaced by current drummer Cyrus Bolooki and the band was picked up by Eulogy Records. They released their debut full-length Nothing Gold Can Stay; the album’s release coupled with a rigorous touring schedule soon earned the band a significant following.



Jamie Scott (born February 12, 1982) writes and produces his music under the name "J.S. Baylin" and is the singer and writer behind the band Jamie Scott and the Town. His music is heavily influenced by 1970s artists like Cat Stevens and James Taylor, and also by neo-soul artists like D'Angelo. He has released two singles and has most recently appeared in Step Up, where he sang on a song on the soundtrack.
