Back in 1998, Mark Redito was very active in the punk/hardcore scene, making zines and fronting bands such as On A Day Like Today. Conflicting schedules and priorities caused the band to call it quits, leaving Mark itching to play music after the hiatus.
In 2005, he began to take interest in electronic music, inspired by Joy Electric, Dntel, The Postal Service and synth-heavy ‘80s pop music that he listened to as a kid. Despite the lack of proper gadgets and equipment, he started to make music with some software, toy keyboards, and a cheap microphone, under the name “Cocolulu.” His early works sounded gritty and lo-fi, with basic beats and muffled vocals. Eventually, he dabbled a bit in chiptune, since he was influenced by video game soundtracks, too. He released an EP, “8-Bit Love” which was made available for download c/o electronica net label, QED Records.
Upon finding out that “Cocolulu” was a popular clothing label in Japan, Mark decided to change his name from “Cocolulu” to “Spazzkid,” to avoid confusion and legal troubles. At this time, his music slowly evolved, developing into dancey electropop with indiepop elements. Soon after, he started getting invitations to perform live, along with bands such as Ang Bandang Shirley. He began creating mash-ups and remixes for other bands, such as Taken By Cars, Ang Bandang Shirley, etc. , and collaborated with Eggboy (Diego Mapa) for their project, EggboyVSSpazzkid.
As of the moment, he is polishing up his tracks for his album, which is long overdue, and twiddling with his pending remixes.
