The name ALAMID has built its name and reputation in the entertainment industry through the years.

Who doesn’t know their very first hit song, “Your Love” that is now the anthem of millions of lovestruck Filipinos? This song was composed by vocalist Gary Ignacio and guitarist Dexter Facelo in 1994 and still reverberates in radio, karaoke and was even used in a Koreanovela. “Your Love” was the first Song of the Year of the radio rock station NU 107 as well as becoming the most requested song of 1994.

This followed by other hit songs like the danceable “Sama-Sama”, “China Eyes” “Just Wasn’t Brave Enough”, the inspiratational song “Hesus” and the very naughty “Batibot.” Aside from their very powerful originals, Alamid is equally capable of doing cover tunes like the Rey Valera’s “Malayo Pa ang Umaga”, “Iris” by the GooGoo Dolls, new wave hits like “Gold” and “99 Red Ballons” and the heavy metal “Down With the Sickness” by Disturbed.

ALAMID was named after a nearly extinct wild mountain cat found only in the Mt. Province region here in the country. But ALAMID did not vanish they went on a worldwide trek touring Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, Dubai, and Bahrain from 2001 to 2007.

Now, ALAMID is back in the music scene as they rev-up the crowd with the energy of teeners and the musical skill of old-time players. Alamid continues to play on with vocalist Gary Ignacio, guitarist Dexter Facelo, Gene Mitra on keyboards, Jun Pineda on bass and drummer Jex Herradura.

TRIVIA: What is an ALAMID?

The ALAMID or the PHILIPPINE CIVET CAT Paradoxurus philippinensis Jourdan is a catlike creature in the family Viverridae. The ALAMID (also known as the MUSANG) averages 3.2 kg (7 lbs), has a body length of 53 cm (21 in) and a tail length of 48 cm (19 in). It is a nocturnal omnivore. Ecologically, they are frequently compared to as filling a similar niche in Asia that the Common Raccoon fills in North America. Its primary food source are fruits such as chiku, mango, coffee cherries, and rambutan. It also has a fondness for palm flower sap which, when fermented, becomes toddy, a sweet liquor.

The ALAMID is an endangered species due to the unabated and hard-hearted destruction of its natural forest habitat.
