About Me:
The founder of Keluarga Silat Nasional (Kelatnas) Indonesia PERISAI DIRI was Raden Mas Soebandiman (RMS) Dirdjoatmodjo, or among his students he was known as Pak Dirdjo or Pak De.
He was born in Kingdom of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat (Yogyakarta) on January 8th, 1913 in a palace complex of Special Royal Region of Paku Alaman. He was born as a talented person, especially in martial and combative arts. At nine years old, he was trusted by his friends to teach martial arts to them, because of his ability more above his friends. Finally, at young age of 16 years old, he decided to move out from his royal palace and started a journey to find masters of martial arts all across the island of Java.
First, he went to Jombang, a small town in East Java, to learn about religion of Islam and martial arts. He went to Pondok Pesantren Tebu Ireng, a famous Islamic School in Indonesia. He spent several years at Pondok Tebu Ireng. After graduated from Pondok Tebu Ireng, Pak Dirdjo went to Central Java. This time, he headed to Solo (Surakarta) and Semarang, to study at Pondok Randu Gunting, which also famous for its martial arts school and religion study.
He was not quite satisfied with his martial arts capabilities. He wanted to learn more, even though Pak Dirdjo was an expert in Silat after he graduated from Pondok Randu Gunting.
So, he decided to go to West Java, and went to Kuningan and Cirebon. In West Java, he learned Sundanese style martial arts from various teachers and masters and he always excelled in his class.
Why did he learn from many teachers and masters? In his opinion and point of view, by having more than one teacher, he could learn the best of what his teachers' specialty and could offer. Also, from different masters and teachers, he could have more knowledge and broad his view.
