      • marissa is a very thoughtful, non-judgmental, and diplomatic presence. she is that very rare voice of reason that reminds me that not every single softball playing gym teacher is a lesbian. . . . except that they are.

      • For a time, Marissa had ambitions to follow in the footsteps of Granny Hilton, I think. But then she realized that we make fun of Granny Hilton. But not in a bad way, just in an obessive way. And in a bad way.

      • In the sequel to the "Friends Separated by
the Heartland: The Loren & Marissa Story"--
introduced to the wider public in the
novelization form--it will be divulged in the
final chapter, but before the epilogue, that
these two women did indeed meet initially in
        childhood when Loren pulled Marissa's
braided pigtail while refusing to clean up the
building blocks in Mrs. Hamm's Montessori
class. Now in their sixties, reunited in post-
ironic glory across that wide span of
American soil, they mended any and all
bruises correlating to the unfortunate hair-
pulling incident by raiding Dolly Parton's
basement storage chamber of horsehair wigs
(!) and meticulously pulling each strand from
said piece with aplomb--and Fuller Brush
        tweezers.

      • Marissa has an inspiring love for life
and people, a clear radiant energy...
"Often we think of egolessness as
a great loss, but really it is a gain. It
is like regaining eyesight after having
been blind, or regaining hearing after
        having been deaf. Egolessness has
been compared to the rays of the
sun. For there is no solid sun, so the
rays just radiate outward. In the
        same way, wakefulnes naturally
radiates outward when we are not so
        concerned with our selves.
Egolessness is the same thing as
basic goodness or buddha nature, our
unconditional being. It is what we
        always have and never lose."
Is that why being around her feels
        so good?
