About Me:
We Are African Air Conditioner
African Air Conditioner was formed in the middle of 2008. The members met in their college, Widya Mandala Catholic University of Surabaya, Indonesia. The band is gaining attention from public by its unique name, unique line up and its “different” musical genre. Sounds simple yet catchy. Explaining about the name of the band, “Surabaya is such a hot city, whether it's the weather, the people, and even the music”, said Raharjo, the band’s bassist, over lunch at Soho Surabaya. “However, the first idea wasn’t about changing this city or to change its people’s musical taste. We just want to give another option, to bring something different here. Therefore came up the idea naming the band as African Air Conditioner; Surabaya as Africa and our music as the Air Con,” he added. Shortly after recorded their songs, African Air Conditioner has toured in continually in their hometown, Surabaya, and other cities around East Java. In stages the band always got bigger attention than another bands, African Air Conditioner always succeed bring their fascinating performance and what to be marked is that people often being surprised by their line up on stage, Mario as the drummer is also responsible as the lead vocalist, thing that you wouldn’t see in everyday-passing-trough bands. “We aren’t the pioneer, nothing so special about us,” Mario and Fajri said over pints of heineken at Surabaya’s local pub. “There are many other superb drummer out there has done it before, Phil Collins of course, and you see, Matt Helders and also Darren Jesse for instance.” “Well, he sings deadly, that probably will explains why,” Fajri noted. Being criticized as “a unique band!”, “remind us to 90’s indie rock sound!”, or even “the new power of Surabaya!”, the band’s guitarist, Fajri, humbly said, “we feel honored of course.” “We are just three young gentlemen with same ideas and dreams, and now people outside keep saying that they are entertained by our songs, our performances, awesome, thanks God, it’s such a pleasure.” African Air Conditioner is now on their way expanding and sharing their music more.
