Jal is a Pakistani Rock band founded by Goher Mumtaz.
The original band members were Atif Aslam and Goher Mumtaz but later Atif was replaced by Farhan Saeed, and Shazi at bass guitar. The band is among the first of contemporary Pakistani bands that fuse Urdu vocals with modern Pop.
The word Jal means water in Sanskrit. In Urdu Aab or Paanii are used instead of Jal for water.
Jal's music primarily falls into the pop genre. Their songs usually make heavy use of the guitar with usually over three guitars used at a time. While their first album followed a rather pop-rock route with grungy undertones, Jal chose to work on a more experimental sound with their second album.
Their influences include local bands like Junoon, Vital Signs, Fuzon, and Awaz.
Band Members
Apart from the three full time band members, Jal's live act includes Salman Albert of the band eP and Gumby on lead guitars and Sultan Raja (Call) on Rhythm guitars.
