details about bands you've never (but
should've)heard of (and has been in a
few, too), but he also has his finger
on the pulse of the Boomer generation.
One time, my dad called me up in the
middle of the night with the sole
purpose of discussing a review Josh
wrote of a Lost Poets record while in
college. "That kid's gonna go places,"
said my dad in this strange Robert
Evans kind of voice at the end of the
conversation. Shit, even 50 year old
men who disdain rap music bow before
the authority of JK's crisp writing. My
dad also liked the interview Josh did
with Ray Bradbury, and I'm inclined to
wholeheartedly agree -- even though
Josh neglected to ask Ray about his
distant relatives "Franken" and "Boo."
decided to think of his fifteen
favorite albums says a whole heap
about him. He was my first friend to
get married, and my only friend who
has known what he wanted to be since
before college: a rock critic. Which
isn't to say that Josh is a formulaic
person, more that he's just really
sure of himself when it comes to what
he likes. I think that's why he's
able to be so productive and so
energetic. He's maybe the only person
I can talk to on the phone
indefinitely. Calling someone
enthusiastic makes them sound like a
retard, but in Josh's case I mean that
exactly as it sounds.
that he could rap as well as Ice Cube.
