What I enjoy doing:
science fiction, environmental politics, intellectual property, urban planning, cooking, board games, role-playing games, candlemaking, pottery, hiking, puzzles
-
Favorite Books:
(fiction) Lois Bujold, Curse of Chalion; Steven Brust and Emma Bull, Freedom and Necessity; Garth Nix, Sabriel et seq. (nonfiction) Jane Jacobs, The Death and Life of Great American Cities; Bruce Schneier, Secrets and Lies. This box is too small.
-
Favorite Movies:
I don't see movies much, but I loved Spirited Away and I have a soft spot for bad Hong Kong action movies.
-
Favorite Music:
all varieties of rock and its offspring (particularly fond of The Alarm, Big Country, Counting Crows, TMBG, Sisters of Mercy, Pink Floyd)
-
Favorite TV Shows:
If I owned a TV I would be a huge fan of The West Wing and would probably watch Buffy for amusement value.

About Me:
I'm the sort of person who, asked to describe himself,
stares at the blank screen for twenty minutes plus before
coming up with some silly meta-answer like this one.
Seriously, I can babble at length on just about any topic
you like, except sports. I'm told I'm good at listening,
too. I read compulsively; if you get to know me I'll
inevitably pile you down with book recommendations. I don't
want to repeat the interest list above so I'll just mention
that my idea of a fun day out includes parks or museums and
a good but not too expensive restaurant, and my idea of a
romantic night in includes cooking dinner, some sort of
board game, and backrubs (given and received both, ideally -
this is another thing I'm told I'm good at).
-
Who I Want to Meet:
In the very abstract, people who aren't averse to the notion
of changing the world, but not all at once. People who know
what it's like to have a muse take over one's brain.
More concretely, I am pretty well supplied with friends, but
nonetheless delighted to meet new people, particularly if
they have interesting things to say. I am single, and
looking for a relationship, but I'm not interested in an
ambiguous maybe-she's-interested-maybe-not-how-can-I-tell
situation. Bluntness is appreciated.
