everything was still and quiet. As I
walked through the alley, which at this
time in April is thick with foliage and
trees bursting at full bloom, Ashley's
face came into my mind. Nearing my
apartment, I noticed someone had
discarded a print of an early Picasso
painting. It was leaning awkwardly
against a telephone pole. For a split
second, with the image of Ashley still
burning in my head, I imagined the two
figures in the painting were Ashley and
myself! My mind reeled and I became
short of breath. I brought the picture
in, fixed it up a bit, put it next to
my piano, and retired for the evening.
