The Pistol Kitties formed at Ladies Rock Camp (April 2008) in Portland, OR. Ladies Rock Camp is a fundraiser for Rock 'N' Roll Camp for Girls, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching music and life skills to girls. It was a totally self-indulgent weekend. You get together with 50 women for three days of workshops and instrument instruction. I went with my band mates from Atari Tuesday, Erin and Michelle. Atari Tuesday is an 80s cover band, and we were interested in learning more about songwriting, so we decided to take Ladies Rock Camp. And we had an amazing time!!! First, we went with Teresa, who takes vocal lessons from the same teacher as Erin and Michelle. She has a beautiful enchanting voice. And we met an awesome lady there, Dana, who became our drummer. The crazy thing is, Dana had never played the drums before. But she had classical violin experience, and boy did it show. She picked up the drums really quickly, and had a very solid beat. We spent three days working on our original song, Shroud, and we performed it live at Satyricon! The teachers at the LRC were very inspirational and helpful, and we really enjoyed meeting women from around the US (and Canada) who want to ROCK!
