Pete. I would only hope that it would
end with Pete. I'd like to recount
details, but there are far too many.
Let me just say that somehwere in
between having had my heart broken in
by him and having my heart broken in
by him he hummed the theme to 'Star
Wars' whislt reclining his seat in
his/my car.
that new jersey has ever produced. once
he came to visit me in berkeley and
ever so gallantly proved his knowledge
that the way to my heart is through my
stomach. he was even the first person
from nj ever to visit me in a non-
nj/nyc location! this further attests
to his status as manly man
extraordinaire. but i think that the
nicest thing that pete has ever done
was make me the omelette from paradise
when no vegetarian food was to be had.
i appreciate his lack of suspect
politics and love of quality film, but
it's his taste in music and food that
truly makes me wish he lived across the
bay from me. i have two fantasies
involving pete: one in which i dress
him up in a dhoti, thus bringing him
back to his yogi status, and
subsequently feed him soft-boiled eggs
and lemon cream gelato; the other
involves an encounter at heathrow
airport at approximately 4am on a
thursday morning, during which i am
drained and melancholy, listening to,
say, the cure's "pornography" or the
smiths' first album, and he approaches
me with a bagful of flake, double
decker and crunchie bars and we sit
around and discuss the joys of british
cuisine. pete is pretty like billy the
cashier and, in conclusion, i find
him "echt phenomenal" in the most
german idealist of manners.
was always the brains behind the
Operation. Then the whole Operation
closed shop and that was it. Sure,
there were pretenders to the throne,
but none like the original. Last I
heard, a rogue agent was weaving his
way through the East, trading on the
Operation's good name. That's fine for
now, I guess, but he should know that
he can't hide from Pete forever. And
when he finds him... I remember this
one time back in 'Nam... Well, I
really shouldn't talk about that. It
wasn't pretty, but Pete sure walked
away smiling.
