No, seriously. One of my favorite
Oberlin singers. And he has
practically zero formal training.
And he's a fellow throatsinger!
*rumble*
He's a fantastic musican, a great
intellect, and a pleasant human being.
Very down-to-earth. I respect him
greatly, and will miss singing with
him. At least I can look forward to
hearing him sing in the future - he has
lots of concerts ahead of him. Who
knows, maybe there'll be something
where I'll get to play sackbut
accompanying him. I can hope, anyhow!
humble people I know. He has the
admirable quality of becoming involved
only in projects he's dead passionate
about--music, psychology, the human
brain. I've had many a cup of coffee
with him, and I can say for a fact that
there is no better sounding board and
no better port in the storm. He's
likely to take the scientific community
and the world of early music by storm
(simultaneously, ladies and gentlemen!
with a cup of coffee in hand!) and
still be the same down-to-earth person
I love and miss. (Hey, Chris: Pick up
an accent in England, righto?)
ever. he's super smart, he loves
early music probably more than
anything else in the world (besides
coffee and pasta), and he's going to
change the world (not to sound like an
oberlin ad) with his neuroscience
research. he can throatsing, talk in
any accent you wish, sing cello parts
to string quartets, swing dance
(although i've never seen it myself, i
hear he's quite good), record from
pond snail neurons, and answer any
question you have about anything.
he's pretty scary when he's being the
devil, though, so be careful.
fortunately he doesn't let too many
people see that side of him. :)
goth as his picture implies.
