Ayame Sohma is one of the elder members of the cursed Sohma. He is 27 years old, the same age as Shigure and Hatori. He shares special relationships with Shigure and Hatori because they spent much of their youth together. Together, they form the "super handsome blossom trio." Hatori acted as a baby-sitter for Aya because Aya was always a hyper and rambunctious. Because Hatori watched over Aya, Aya only listens to Hatori when being told to do something. The relationship Aya has with Shigure is rather ambiguous; it seems they have somewhat of a romantic relationship.

Ayame owns a custom tailoring store called "Ayame." Ayame specializes in costume-type dresses, such as sailor fuku, maids' dresses, flowing gowns, etc. Ayame said that his clothing is made for male-use, because every male has his own "secret garden." This further strengthens the fact that he is bisexual.

Aya works with a girl named Mine. Mine is just as passionate about fancy clothing as Aya is. They make wonderful costumes and dresses together.

Aya is loud, outspoken, and very much a drama-queen. He is egotistical as well. When he speaks, he speaks fast and speaks a LOT. He likes to tell stories about his highschool years. The stories are usually very weird, but he just loves to hear himself talk.

Ayame's quirks make him a comic relief to the Fruits Basket series. He's always spitting out something silly and unrelated to the topic at hand. He can be very serious as well, but his seriousness usually turns into utter idiocracy and/or fancifullness. Sometimes, it seems that he has no grasp on reality and will spout out anything that happens to be on his mind. He is only serious when talking about his relationship with Yuki, but that seriousness doesn't last long either. Shigure says that even though Aya is dumb and hyper, he was very popular in high school because of his interesting personality (and me thinks his dashing good looks had something to do with it too ^_~).

Ayame is a very sexually charged character. He believes that "everyone should have that experience." "That experience" is sex, of course. Because of Ayame's utter disregard of reality or conformity, he is always making sexualk comments towards Tohru and Shigure. The remarks really seem to irk Hatori and Yuki. They both think that he's personality is overbearing, considering Yuki and Hatori are the calmest, most composed members of the Sohma family.
