Pressler busts on me all the time, mostly
because my whole cynical-70s-Robert Evans-
dandy-vibe goes straight over her head. But is
she a classy lady anyway? Buddy, you better
believe she is.
The thing about Jessica--that
perhaps she doesn't even know--is
that her manner of writing is
extraordinary. Even an email from her
reads as though she has exploded
herself into the room you're in, pulled
up a chair, and set out her cards. I
can't figure out quite why this
happens, but I think it has something
to do with the way that she sees
thingswith more clarity and detail
than the rest of us. In one of many
examples of this extra-sensory
ability, Jessica recently sent me a
book of bible stories, as illustrated
with Lego men. It's the most
amazing thing I've ever seen. If I
could take one book with me on a
desert island, I'd take this one (And
maybe SUFFIX ADDICTION, if I could
squeeze two). I don't know how she
saw that in methis insatiable love
for bible stories and legosbut she.
Just. Did. And that's why it's going to
be her with the name in the big lights
and us cheering from the sidelines.
And that's just fine with me.
My fave jess moment was her calling me
on a thursday when we had plans to see
a movie on Saturday and asking would I
rather go to the movie or Milan....
