About Me:
Have You Heard?
San Diego native Alyssa Jacey had always known exactly what she wanted to do with her life. DANCE! So in order to pursue her career more seriously and continue her 18 years of training (hip-hop, jazz, ballet, tap, swing, lindy-hop, character and even cheer), she quit school, and moved to LA, where something very unexpected happened.
“I was working as a waitress on the 3rd Street Promenade and my restaurant decided to start doing karaoke and pushed me onto the stage. I had never taken one voice lesson in my life and never planned on doing karaoke (ever) but that night I didn’t have a choice and was pretty much forced into it, and every week after!” From that moment on, Alyssa was approached by multiple customers asking where they could see her shows or buy her CD’s. Her response? “Thank you but I’m not a singer, I’m a dancer. Do you know anyone in the dance industry?”
Alyssa ended up moving back to SD to finish school at Cal State University San Marcos (now graduated with a BA in Communications) and continued singing karaoke and wouldn’t you know it? The same steady stream of compliments continued which eventually pushed her to record her first EP, ‘Alyssa Jacey.’ "When you start getting asked the same question over and over and you realize you’ve been asked the same thing for an entire year and you haven’t done anything about it, you start thinking, “Hey. Maybe they’re trying to tell you something. Maybe you should listen and go with it." So that’s exactly what she did. What started as a hobby in LA the year before lead to Alyssa’s first two album releases in 2005; The ‘Alyssa Jacey’ EP and ‘Closed eyes… …open Heart,’ a 7-Song LP, and ‘The Soul’ EP was later released in 2006. (All 3 can be heard and purchased in the music section of AlyssaJacey.com).
**What has she done since? Where is she now?**
Performed 100 shows from the release of her first EP to the Fall of 2006, some of her first shows being at Canes and the Belly Up. Picked up a guitar in October of 2005 and has been self-taught ever since. Multiple performances on KUSI’s ‘Good Morning San Diego,’ some songs on regular rotation on internet radio across the U.S., her song, ‘The Longest Kiss' was played on KPRI and 'Sunset Blue,' 'Integrity,' 'Prove Me Wrong,' and 'My Only Wish This Christmas,' were played on FM949, gained residency’s at Twiggs and Lestat’s here in SD as well as the Room 5 Lounge in LA. *This year she was on the Bad Ass Frank Show (Internet TV, February) opened for Mandy Perkins at the Roxy Theatre and was a finalist in the So Cal Acoustic Music Live Competition (March, LA), 5 shows in April, one being for an NSAI showcase, 4 shows in May, one being for the Jenna Druck/Young Women’s Leadership Forum, finalist in the contest to open for Kenny Chesney (June, SD), opened for Ernie Halter at the Hotel Café and did a benefit show at the House of Blues (July, LA) (and performs for charities every 3-4 months for either NDM Productions, Flight 93 or the American Cancer Society), toured Tennessee in August where she played 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville (following Josh Kelley) and BB Kings (Memphis), toured Nor Cal and headlined at Canes in September as well as opened for Sara Haze at the Coach House (San Juan Capistrano) and was back at the Belly Up this year on November 18th! She has also been in the studio for the last 2.5 years, working on her new full-length album, ‘Relaxation Lane’ (set for release in 2009). To sell at shows in the mean time, she has compiled two new 5-song CD’s called, ‘Acoustic Moments’ and ‘Visions,’ filled with never before heard tracks, and her new EP, 'Turning Points,' will be released early next year.
"It's been one hell of a year! I feel blessed every day, I'm so happy that I found this passion, to be doing what I'm doing and I am grateful for everyone's support. Including yours and the fact that you took the time to read my (currently shortened) biography! ;) I hope to see you, and your crew, dressed in BLUE at a show near you! Until then, smile, enjoy life, and listen to and support local music!"
