Bride Wars is a 2009 American romantic comedy film directed by Gary Winick and written by Greg DePaul and June Raphael and SNL's Casey Wilson.

The film stars Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Annabel Grealish, Candice Bergen, Chris Pratt and Kristen Johnston.

Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Liv (Kate Hudson)are best friends who since childhood have planned every detail of their respective weddings in the month of June. Planning to marry their respective husbands to-be, everything seems to be going perfectly -- the dates are set, their dresses are beautiful, and the maids of honor, each other, are as joyful as can be. At the top of their bridal "must have" list: a ceremony at New York's ultimate bridal destination, the Plaza Hotel. Now, at age 26, they're both about to get married; they're about to realize their dreams; and they're about to live happily ever after. Or maybe not. When a clerical error causes a clash in wedding dates--they're now to be married on the same date!--Liv, Emma and their lifelong friendship are put to the ultimate test. Liv, a successful lawyer who is used to getting what she wants, including the perfect job and the perfect man, won't settle for anything less than the perfect wedding she has dreamed of for years. Emma, a schoolteacher who has always been good at taking care of others, but not so much in looking after herself, discovers her inner Bridezilla and comes out swinging when her own dream wedding is imperiled. Now, the two best friends who'd do anything for each other find themselves in a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners struggle that threatens to erupt into all-out war.

Raphael and Wilson completed the shooting script of Bride Wars, from an original script by Greg DePaul,before the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike began.Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith also contributed to the screenplay.

Some principal photography took place at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.The film has been mainly filmed in Boston, Massachusetts, New York City, New York, and in Salem, Massachusetts.

The score to Bride Wars was composed by Edward Shearmur, who recorded his score with a 77-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony at the Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox.

The film received disastrous reviews upon release. Rottentomatoes reported that Bride Wars received negative reviews by 90 of 102 professional critics.Roger Ebert said in a review that there were "no lines that were smart or witty", and that the dialogue was "dictated by the needs of the plot ... cliches, obligatory truisms and shrieks". He also stated the character's intelligence levels were akin to HAL 9000 with his wiring ripped out.Mark Kermode said that if this film was not in his list of 10 worst films of 2009, he would quit film criticism.

In The New York Times, Manohla Dargis called it "dopey if largely painless". She said that Hathaway's presence meant "that there’s a little acting in it, along with a few human emotions" and wondered what the film might have been if the writers had explored a potential lesbian subtext suggested by the opening scenes.

In the Philadelphia Inquirer, Carrie Rickey wrote, "How bad can a movie be, with Goldilocks Hudson and Cinderella Hathaway? So excruciating that Hudson's sunshine can't warm it and Hathaway's rose redolence can't mask its stink."

In its opening weekend, the film grossed $21,500,000 ranking #2 at the box office.
