Aphex Twin a.k.a. Richard D. James

      Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

      “Window Licker” - Single E.P.

*Description: Aphex Twin is perhaps the best known of the many monikers used by the performing pseudonym Richard D. James, one of the more creative minds in ’90's electronica. James, who has recorded as AFX, Polygon Window, Caustic Window, and several others, is equally capable of both Eno-esque ambient pieces and headache-inducing techno. He will juxtapose melodies played by computer-generated string instruments with frantic, machinized beat patterns that make sense only to him. More an avant-garde composer than a creator of dance-floor hits, he has spent most of his extremely prolific career ignoring commercial trends.

Richard D. James began his unique approach to music making early on. As a child, he conducted sound experiments on the strings and hammers of his family piano; by age 14, he had recorded his first compositions. During the late ’80's, he DJ’d at raves in Cornwall before moving to London, where he attended college for one year before dropping out to focus on his music. Aphex Twin is known for covering many different styles and subgenres of electronic music, often times having a different theme with each release. [- epitaph +]

Oleander - Elementary Particles (Symbiotic - Phutureprimitive Remix)

*Description: Bluetech is a psybient DJ/producer who creates exclusively downtempo music. A classically trained pianist and master of the art of software production. Bluetech's love of the melodic and exquisite sense of sound design makes him one of the most ingenius producers today.

Bluetech's sound emerges from his custom-built Reaktor instruments and software based synthesizers as a primordial electro-dub alchemy. While encompassing musical touches from different parts of the globe, he presents a total blend, crossing genres and borders. Bluetech's music is very diverse, even for a psybient artist.

Bluetech brings another example of sonic story-telling to somnia, moving from atmospheric float into pulsing minimal electroid rhythms. Fractaline analog grooves and micro beat construction establish a hypnotic base for a composed layer of ambient exploration to unfold. Presenting a balance of analog modular synth elements and complex DSP processing, approach to cinematic modern music.

Bluetech has created a label called Native State Records to release his own music and music from other artists who cross boundaries between ambient/chill and more IDM/experimental sounds.

Bluetech has released two albums on Aleph Zero Records, an internationally acclaimed chill label run by recording artist Shulman, and is currently working on a third for release in 2008. Aleph Zero brought Bluetech's music to the attention of the international chill audience, and helped to launch his career worldwide through strong support and beautiful packaging. Bluetech has been releasing albums under the names Evan Marc and Evan Bartholomew. [- epitaph +]

      Conjure One

Insomnia / AMV - Self-Titled Debut / Solo Project Package

*Description: Over the last two decades, only a few artists have had as much impact on modern forms of music as Rhys Fulber. Best known from his work in the pioneering industrial rock outfit Front Line Assembly, Fulber has also made a significant mark in the world of electronic dance and pop music with Delerium, his own project Conjure One, and has also become a respected in the music industry producer.

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Fulber's appreciation of music began at an early age. By the age of six, Fulber was playing the drums, and at age eleven, was already visiting recording studios and discovering punk rock and new wave artists (namely DOA, Buzzcocks and Pete Shelley's 1981 release, Homosapien.) Fulber was still only a teenager when he met another local like-minded musician, Austrian Bill Leeb (who initially worked under the alias of Wilhelm Schroeder on the 1984 Skinny Puppy E.P., Remission, before launching groundbreaking industrial / rock outfit, Front Line Assembly. The group went on to issue countless releases on a steady basis - including such standouts as 1991's Caustic Grip, 1992's Tactical Neural Implant, and 1994's Millennium, among others.) Growing weary of the confines of the genre, Fulber departed Front Line Assembly in 1996 to concentrate on several other projects and record producing.

Despite leaving Front Line Assembly, Fulber and Leeb continued to collaborate on what became a more famous project; "An ambient pop side project called Delerium. The act shot to the top of the charts thanks to their 1999 global hit, Silence," which featured vocals by Sarah McLachlan. As one half of Delerium, Rhys is no stranger to hit records, and as Conjure One (his current solo project) he has already scored a no. 1 U.K. Club Chart placing with a package that contained remix treatments of the songs Sleep and Tears From The Moon (both included on the self-titled debut CD Conjure One). Centre Of The Sun also gained a Top 3 U.K. Club Chart placing.

Conjure One's follow-up release Extraordinary Ways is set for release on August 30 (Nettwerk America), and for the first time in his career, sees Fulber on vocal duties, delivering a unique modern take on the oft-neglected Buzzcocks classic I Believe. As in the past, he also calls on the talents of female vocalists, including Jane (Endless Dream, One Word and Extraordinary Ways), Chemda (Forever Lost), Tiff Lacey (Face The Music) and Joanna Stevens (Dying Light).

In addition to his solo work as Conjure One and long-established songwriting partnership with Bill Leeb in Delerium and Front Line Assembly, the multi-talented Fulber has also been a producer-in-demand for several years. His list of credits ranges from metal outfits Fear Factory (supplying production, programming, keyboards, and arrangements to such popular albums as 1995's Demanufacture and 1998's Obsolete, among others.) Megadeth, Mudvayne and Paradise Lost to AOR pop acts Sarah Brightman and Josh Groban. [- epitaph +]

      Faye Wong (王菲)

      Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

      香奈兒 - F.W.

*Description: In the mud of so-called "Canto-pop" shines the diamond that is Faye Wong. A pop star who has always insisted on doing her own thing rather than what others want, Faye Wong has actually managed to create an original album, (not easy in the nightmare of sugary pop that is typical Hong Kong fare). The "beauty from Beijing" actually contributed to writing some of these song, and spent far longer on this album that is usually accepted in the Canto-pop industry - A brave step. The album is aptly titled - It may be the one she has spent the most personal effort on.

Faye Wong spans many musical genres, fusing jazz, pop, electronica and the traditional sounds of the "Chinese erhu" into some of the track, while others display heavier underground influences, and others are lighter pop. [- epitaph +]

Dusted - Single E.P. (Ft. Roots Manuva)

*Description: Leftfield were a duo of electronica artists and record producers, Paul Daley (formerly of The Rivals, A Man Called Adam and the Brand New Heavies) and Neil Barnes, formed in 1989 in London, England. The name Leftfield was originally used simply by Neil Barnes for the first single "Not Forgotten" but after this Paul Daley was involved firstly in remixing songs and then in the creation of following music. The pair were pioneers in the fields of IDM (intelligent dance music) and progressive house, being among the first to fuse house music with dub and reggae.

They furthermore were among the first electronic musicians to incorporate live guest vocalists, along with The Chemical Brothers and Underworld. Ultimately the duo have been influential on the electronic genre as a whole, with The Crystal Method's Scott Kirkland referring to them in 2005 as "The Best Electronic Band", period!. Sly - Protection

*Description: Massive Attack are an English triphop band. Founded in Bristol in 1988, the band's current lineup consists of Robert Del Naja and Grantley Marshall.

With the release of their debut album Blue Lines (1991), Massive Attack were critically acclaimed for their fusion of jazz, hip hop, rock, and soul elements into a new genre triphop. With the release of later albums such as Protection (1994) and Mezzanine (1998), the band integrated forms of electronic music into their sound. Their music was part of the larger Bristol underground scene. Wonderful as well! [- epitaph +]

Remind Me - Melody A.M. (Live @ Glastonbury)

*Description: Torbjörn Brundtland and Svein Berge were schoolmates in their hometown of Tromsø, experimenting with electronic instruments in the early 90s. However, the duo did not appear as Röyksopp until years later when they met again in Bergen. The city was a vital scene for underground electronic music at this time, and the band worked with other Norwegian musicians such as Frost, Kings of Convenience’s guitarist/singer Erlend Øye, Drum Island and Those Norwegians in what was called the Bergen Wave.

The popularity of the duo’s music was boosted by several graphically experimental music videos. One of them, an infographic-styled video by French company H5 for the track "Remind Me", won the 2002 MTV Europe Music Award for "Best Music Video". In this same event the duo was nominated in 3 more categories: "Best Nordic Act", "Best New Artist" and "Best Dance Act", but only won the award for "Best Video". The duo performed the song "Poor Leno" at the event.

The word Röyksopp is a stylized version of the Norwegian word for the puffball mushroom, "røyksopp" or literally, "smoke mushroom". [- epitaph +]

      Port Rhombus - Single E.P.

*Description: Squarepusher is the performing pseudonym of Tom Jenkinson, an English electronic music artist signed to Warp Records. He specialises in the electronic music genres of drum and bass, musique concrète, and acid, with a significant jazz influence.

Jenkinson was born in Chelmsford, Essex in 1975 and was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School. He went on to study Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design. Jenkinson performs live, playing with a fretless or fretted bass guitar, a laptop, and other hardware. He appeared twice on BBC Radio #1's The Breezeblock show. On 26 June 2005, Squarepusher played at London's Royal Festival Hall as part of the Jimi Hendrix tribute show "Songs of Experience". His 12-minute performance was built up of a medley of Hendrix tracks played solely on the bass guitar with the use of effects. [- epitaph +]
