FIFTY YEARS AGO , the Far Eastern University Institute of Medicine was born from a vision of Dr. Nicanor Reyes , founder and first President of FEU, to pioneer a non-sectarian education dedicated to nation-building. A sterling roster of competent medical educators from leading medical institutions were chosen and appointed to lead the Basic Sciences and Clinical Departments.

SINCE the first batch from the Institute of Medicine graduated in 1957, the Institute has consistently produced board topnotchers. Through the years, it has contributed some of the finest names in the healthcare field: four Secretaries of Health, seven PMA Presidents, one President of the World Medical Association, and six Presidents of the Philippine College of Surgeons. In 1986, the Board of Medical Education, DECS, and the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges gave the Institute the highest level of accreditation, and awarded it as a Center of Excellence in Medical Education .

ON October 2001, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conferred the singular privilege of Deregulated Status to FEU-NRMF in recognition of its meritorious achievement in its provision of instruction and in the conduct of research and community extension services, for high performance of graduates in licensure examinations, and for maintaining a tradition of integrity and an untarnished reputation in the educational service.

THE FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine has indeed grown since its inception 50 years ago - it has more than 7,000 graduates, more than 100 topnotchers, and countless successful practitioners, innovative researchers, and dedicated teachers to show as proof of its success. But one thing has remained unchanged: the Institute's commitment to always be at the forefront in the formulation, development, and implementation of global quality standards of medical care.
