NEXT SHOW! Sat., March 9, 2007, with Persephone's Bees & Elephone at the Red Devil. (Advance tickets are $2 cheaper.) The first two were just an introduction, really: Beak (2002) was lo-fi classic-pop maximalism; Turning Violet (2004) was taut, big-fist boomboom with dueling simultaneous melodies.

Now the boys have finished up number three... it's called Klimty Favela, and it's a collaboration with visual artist Stephen Tompkins. It's a comic book and an album all wrapped into one phantasmagoric whirl of a mindfuck. Think of it as a people's history of the Olympics, with chunks on dentistry and fossil fuel. Or a people's history of dentistry, in which human corpses are compressed into an energy drink for athletes. Most of the basic tracks were improvised, then sliced/spliced/sculpted into songs, then sung to. All in all, it's a great leap forward.

The four personalities of Griddle are still in full force: Kimo, the mysterious one; Fortier, the flirtatious one; McGrew, the energetic one; Kevin, the midwestern one. They'll be back on the road this fall. They hope to stroll the cobblestoned streets of your fair city, and sleep on your couches. Griddle loves you.
