      • I was at a party recently where a guy was trying to convince a crowd that the film "Wargames" was actually based on his life. It was clearly untrue, as he was only 22. But it reminded me of the time I met Mark. It was 1994, in NYC. I was at a party at George Plimptons flat off the park (same building as Mia's, but a different floor), and Mark was in a corner of the room trying to impress a group of women by claiming to have invented Mrs. Dash. Well, I thought Mercedes Ruehl was going to drop her highball (she got invited to these kind of parties back then), and Susan Sonntag called him on it, saying she knew for a fact Mrs. Dash was over 100 years old. Mark got redfaced, and I stepped in to rescue him. "Listen", I said, "Susan's just bitter because she had to crash this party. But as for you..I have a good sense about these things, and something tells me there's alot brewing inside you, baby." I leaned in and whispered "look inside...find your OWN spice!" And he has! Boy do I miss him!

      • Mark and I go so far back......he has really been there for me through some serious issues. Words will never express the connection we have or the place he will always hold in my heart. I love you Fergie! ALWAYS!

      • I love Mark more than cheese grits, too. Well, except maybe for the goat cheese grits at Tupelo Honey in Asheville. But you've got to understand, that's some REALLY good cheese grits.

Seriously, Mark has become a good friend when he had ample reason to write me off and I'm grateful. He's gone above and beyond the call when I needed a hand, a laugh, or a sympathetic ear. He's witty and smart, self-evidently cute and understands the mystic perfection of a deviled egg or a nice banana pudding.

Among the cowpokes of the Metro DC Corral, Mark is one of those wearing the white hats. (How's that for a tortured metaphor?)

      • Mark is a true friend...

Mark and I have been friends since
kindergarten! He has been my friend
and accepted me through out all of my
incredibly horrid hairstyles in the 80's
(and believe me, there were plenty).

Life is just a little bit better with Fergie in
        it! :)

      • Mark is the love child of Roanoke's
        down home goodness and Boston's
chic. He's the only person that I'd
actually be caught riding in a VW beatle
with (and, yes, he used to have one!).
He's the type of gay guy that reinstills
your faith in the world just when you think
the gay world is a titanic two seconds
after hitting the iceberg. He's got more
class that the nearest state university,
but more importantly, he's the friend you
can always depend on. Get Mark; it
        pays!

      • Mark is one of my oldest and closest
friends. He's a lot like family,
really. Acutally, if you factor in his
love of fried cheese and cheap whiskey
he's JUST like my family. Mark and I
have forged bonds that cannot be
        broken. We've been through
        questionable early 90's fashion
        choices, romantic woes, family hijinks
        and several roadtrips. I've always
been able to count on him. I always
        feel totally accepted and understood
when I'm with him. He's the best.
