THE ONLY THING BETWEEN US: FROM ONLINE TO PRINT

The Only Thing Between Us marks Pamela Santos' debut as a fiction writer in the publishing industry. It was a story born online and finally concluded in print. Currently available in National Bookstore outlets nationwide for Php360, a book launch event was held last April 12, 5-7pm at National Bookstore, SM Megamall Branch.
She started the story back in June 2005 at an online forum without any inkling of ever pursuing publishing. She wrote installment after installment of the engaging story between best friends Bianca and Ryan. One is convinced that remaining friends is unquestionably the right thing to do, while the other is desperately trying not to cross the line that is drawn.
You might say this storyline is nothing new. But the captivating way it was written made all the difference in the world.
The story soon charmed readers and generated buzz within the forum. Within six months, readers grew to an overwhelming number until everyone urged her to publish The Only Thing Between Us. They were convinced this story should no longer be confined within the forum.
Though hesitant at first, Pamela, with the support of her readers, braved herself to face the unknown. The story was left hanging online in December 2005.
Pamela completed her work, and kept the ending under wraps as she looked for a publisher. However, she found the task daunting as most publishing houses turned her down without even asking to see her work. She was told most publishing houses are looking for celeb turned writers, that it was risky to invest on a newcomer and to just consider self-publishing. It disheartened her that nowadays it was no longer about having the talent, but it was more about having a big famous name.
But Pamela persevered, convinced everybody has to start somewhere. She attracted more attention by releasing an e-book, an unfinished version of The Only Thing Between Us. The e-book proved to be an effective marketing tool. Through the power of e-mail it was passed on and forwarded. Soon, people outside of the forum read the story. To her surprise, e-book readers began to send her messages, wishing her luck in getting it published. She received hundreds of messages like this for they all can’t wait to read how the story will end. The strategy was so effective that Pamela was even told by a reader that the e-book was even banned from being accessed and read within their company.
This support and her passion for writing pushed her to believe she would find a publisher who would read her work first before turning her down. One day on April 2006, she received an email from a publisher who requested a meeting to see her work. This turned out to be the ticket she had been waiting for.
Now The Only Thing Between Us, a story that began online, has a happy ending of being a published novel under Great Books Publishing. It is worth every penny as the published book offers fresh new chapters and exciting new twists have also been added at the beginning of the book.
