Recently moved back home to LA with the mutts, lived all over the world for work and play. Most rewarding gig was my non-profit involving surfing and New York City (yes, there is good surf in Queens). I learn from every bit of life and always working to one-up myself. Bob's College of Magic and Balloons in
Pacoima, CA. Most people don't know
it, but the first year of magic school
is very difficult; some would say it's
akin to the boot camp mentality that
occurs the first year of law school.
Needless to say, a tight and
formidable bond was forged between
Shaun and I. We studied the arts of
slide of hand, making poodles out of
balloons, and, of course, the legal
ramifications of molesting a six year
old boy (and, obviously, how to shirk
those ramifications). We spooned on
frigid nights, and both, eventually,
we're able to graduate Magna Cum Laude
with our associates degrees in Magic
and Party Entertainment. The
experiences I shared with Shaun we're
some of the most forming of my life--
without him, I wouldn't be who I am
today: one of the most popular
attractions of the Pacoima County
Fair, Nik The Magnificent (and my
parrot, Schlemiel).
through it. And all the colours are more
saturated. Occasionally I find myself
passing through it, which doesn't happen
nearly as often as it should, and it makes me
smile. Shauner is wonderful in every reality,
though, even the ones that haven't been
tapped into yet. Get to know this kid.
and sweet - but the only reason I'm friends
with him is because of all the satisfaction I
get from kicking his ass in Pente (the ancient
Greek game of intellect and strategic skill)
alive. The great thing about Shaun is
that he can meet and become friends
with anyone anywhere at any time.
He's the kinda guy that reminds you
that flowers are pretty and puppies
are cute. He makes you look at life
in a new way. Just don't trust his
ideas on where to pitch a tent...
