About Me:
SOUL REVIVAL, Boston's longest running dance party presents:
FELA LIVES! An ongoing tribute to Anikulapo
Hosted by Zumbi & KC Hallett
With resident DJ Adam Gibbons
and very special guest:
RON TRENT (Africa Hi-Fi, Chicago)
spinning Afrobeat & AfroHouse with Live West African Percussion
with a showing of the 1997 French Documentary 'Fela : Music is the Weapon' and a traveling & growing Shrine to Fela
On October 15th 1938 A Legend was born in Nigeria. His Name was Fela Ransome Kuti. In his rich life, he would change his name to Fela Anukulapo Kuti, take multiple wives, declare himself the president of his own republic, become an adversary of the Nigerian Government by being a spoksperson for the welfare of the people of Nigeria. He would be jailed, beaten, and tortured and his mother would die after being thrown out of a window by the Nigerian military. The whole time he would invent a whole new genre of music by Taking African Hi-Life, Traditional Yoruba music and fusing it with what he was hearing from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown. This music would be refered to as 'Afrobeat' and Fela would record over 70 Albums in his rich life before dying of AIDS in 1997.
Join us on this evening of celebration, as we give thanks for his life and his contribution to the people of Nigeria as well as the musical foundation he laid for us to build upon. We honor his music and his legacy through Music, Dance, Prayer and thanks. Please feel free to bring an offering for Fela and leave it at the shrine as you walk in the door.

the sweet sharing of vibrations. love

sat to join them and at one point fran
lifted the needle and the soul revival
moved to my hands! water fell from
above and landed on my head. than liza
and i danced, so free and fluid and we
been flow-growing ever since. i love
the rain of hugs we share, you and i.
cant wait till the full moon next...
sabado, te veo!
I'm just watching all the pretty people dance.
And sometimes I FILM the pretty people
dancing ;^) Either way, I always I have a
good time at Soul.
stresses of sociaty, to come together
in dance, music, joy, with genuine
love. A Place to be free, to cry out,
to sing out loud (even if u don't know
all the words) no one will judge. A
warm place where it feels like home cuz
it is home, for our dancing souls. Soul
Revival, one of my many blessings. Ashe
Boston scene than at Soul Revival.
Thank you for giving me a welcoming,
respectful place to share with the most
fly people in this city.
