      • Oops. I accidentally scheduled No Dinx to play against Orville Ready
Blockers, who they played LAST WEEK!

Now, part of the problem (besides senility), is that No Dinx has filled
        in on
several nights and played extra matches, and has already played ALL of
        you,
and I just hadn't noticed last week's match when making the schedule.
        This is
complicated somewhat by No Dinx's request to play at 9:00 this Tuesday.

All in all, the best solution would be to switch opponents and have No
        Dinx
play JACKJAB (again). On the other hand, it's been several weeks since
        they
played, both will almost certainly be Silver Division teams, and this
        way nobody
has to change time slots (always a tricky proposition fraught with the
        danger
that some team member might not get the message and shows up at the
        wrong
        time).

      • I gave this one star to compensate for the high ratings of reviewers whom I think did not see the original and hence don't know how badly the 'redux' version compares. The extra scenes detract rather than add to the movie. They distract from the main thrust of the film and the seriousness of character Willard, interrupting his focus on his destination and what he will find there as he travels up the river. Having seen the original, it was hard to let go of the Heart of Darkness theme and see the destination at madness as just another side show a la the tedious stops at the highly improbable French plantation, the character undermining surfboard prank, etc. It was disappointing to see how much Coppola needs a good editor and producers with taste and a firm grip on him! And it's sad that some people will only know Apocalypse Now by the trashed-up Redux version.

      • I find all "war films" distressing, and this one even more so than most because of its unrelentingly realistic depictions of the chaos and confusion, bad judgment, and character/personality alterations. The performances, of course, are uniformly superb. What I had not expected was the great beauty with which even the most horrific scenes were photographed. And the musical score (including the Wagner) and its use were extraordinary. One cannot claim that watching this film is a pleasure -- it is entirely too wrenching for that. But it is so wonderfully crafted that it effects a kind of mesmerizaton on the viewer. I suspect it is achieving (if it has not already achieved) an iconic niche, and for that reason if no other, I recommend that everyone see it at least once. I know that I am glad that I did, even though I found it wrenching and disturbing.

      • The original Apocalypse Now is my favorite film of all time. The Redux makes it even better. The missing footage fleshes out the characters and gives the story more emotional weight. The original was dazzling and effective but the redux pulls you even deeper into the jungle and makes it quite a ride. If you have only seen the original, prepared to be stunned! It is probably the best "directors cut" I have ever seen. I was especially appreciative of the description by Coppola about the closing credits. Rent it now

      • This was so gritty in its day, but except for the mo-fo cursing, mere television cop shows have caught up with & surpassed this simplistic old-hat story. The actors are still great, but truly it's all just way too familiar.

A best friend who always knew more about life than you? Couldn't argue with him - he was always right (at least in his own mind). An overzealous teacher? You WILL pay attention in my class or suffer the consequences AND... A pair of checkered VANS? Bought mine at the mall (Van Doren shoe store) This movie is like a 'day in the life' for me (circa 1983). Just a terrific story that shows what it was like going to high school in the early 80s.

Rutger Hauer is riveting as an evil force with no discernable motive or personal history, and virtually supernatural powers. Nothing quite makes sense in this film, and that is what makes it so chilling. Whenever Hauer, always charismatic, smiles, you want to pull a pillow over your head and call for your momma - he is one bad mofo. Howell and Leigh are both serviceable in what is a great cult flick. One other observation - I've found that whenever reviews vary widely - lots of 1's and lots of 5's, you've probably found an interesting film though it may not be to everyone's taste. This movie proves that theory. If you like the occasional thriller and appreciate a unique screenwriting perspective, I suggest you rent it and find out for yourself. I've just put it my queue again because I need a good dose of male

It was really good and would have hooked me from the beginning had I seen it then. I hope they come out with the entire series. I really want to see the 1st seasons in there entirety.
