About Me:
 Dr. Bernardo U. Dela Merced is one of the very active personalities in the Filipino community in the tri-state area of New York-New Jersey-Connecticut. He is currently the president of the Nueva Ecija Association of Eastern USA, Inc., a Board Member of the Aurora Association USA, Inc., the auditor of the UERMMMMC Medical Alumni Association East Coast Chapter and the Chairperson of the PIDCI Cultural Committee for the Philippine Independence Day celebration in New York 2009. Having been in the Cultural Committee for seven years, Dr. dela Merced had successfully emceed and co-emceed the event with equally talented hosts like Dr.Boy Pangan, Golda dela Merced, songwriter/producer Archie "D", and lately, Award-winning Actress Princess Punzalan. He is on his 2nd year serving as Director of PIDCI. For this year's (2009) Philippine Day Celebration in Passaic, NJ, Dr. Bernie has been unanimously bestowed the prestigious title of PDOC GRAND MARSHAL 2009.
Dr. Bernie has a long history of Filipino community involvement. When he went abroad for the first time in 1975-78 to Iran.
He was elected president of the Filipino Community that worked closely with the Philippine Embassy Labor Office to safeguard the benefits of the Filipino contract workers.
His next stop was Libya in 1985-92 with his wife, Sally. 
He co-founded and was elected president of SALAAM (SAmahang LAAn sa Manggagawa), the only Filipino Community organization that existed there. Working hand in hand with the Labor Office and in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Libya, SALAAM, under his presidency undertook a very ambitious project: the establishment of the Filipino School for the children of OFW’s. Officially named, The Philippine Community School in Libya , the school was founded in 1990 after two long years of hard work. It started off with a handful of less than 20 elementary pupils that amazingly started growing year after year. Today, the school caters to both elementary and high-school students of OFW’s.
Dr. Bernie had his elementary and high school education in Pantabangan and San Jose City in Nueva Ecija. He graduated from the University of the Philippines (BS Pre Medicine ’69) and from the UERMMemorial Medical Center (Doctor of Medicine ’73). He has worked as a physician in various capacities:

:Plan Physician of NAPOCOR,
:University Physician of Gregorio Araneta University Foundation
:General Practitioner in Yazd, Iran and Zawia, Libya
Presently, he is a Diabetes Care Specialist with Novo Nordisk, Inc. where he was awarded the Circle of Exellence twice and a Vision Award for exemplary service to diabetes cause.
Despite his busy schedule, he still is too much into music. “It’s my passion,” he said. He croons, writes, produces and records songs, does concerts for charity and to top it all, he has a live band that features a father-daughter tandem that plays for all occasion.
