About Me:
Center for Nationalist Studies
Ang aklat ng isang tunay na mag-aaral ay ang lipunang kanyang ginagalawan, ang kanyang guro ay ang mamamayan, at ang kanyang pagsusulit ay ang pagsasagawa ng mapagpalayang pagkilos.
-Jose Pepe Alcantara
The Challenge
The youth holds the key to the future.
In the coming years, we are expected to chart and design the destiny of this great nation not only for ourselves but for the entire people.
But must we sit idle waiting for that call to come? Doesn't the task of constructing the future begin with deconstructing the present? Today, do we not see exploitation, oppression, fraud, injustice, and other evils--- things which corrupt and destroy the present, and the future too if left unchecked?
Maybe we do. For are we not victims of over a hundred years of miseducation, where our ideas and conceptions of our long and glorious history, as well as our understanding of our current malaise, has been rewritten to suit the needs of neocolonial control and domination.
Today is indeed a grand time to unlearn, learn and relearn the various social conditions and historical contexts that would serve as our anchor and helm in the ongoing collective praxis to understand our past, present and future.
Let us not allow our academic requisites to prevent us from taking part in this momentous challenge.
Be open. Be brave.
Let not academics interfere with your learning.
The Response
The CENTER FOR NATIONALIST STUDIES is the reply of concerned University of the Philippines students to this challenge. It presents itself as an alternative medium for learning inside the university, radically different in style, form and content, from what the academe currently delivers.
Formed in 1982 under the auspices of the UP Diliman University Student Council, it started as an institution ran by scores of student organizations of various persuasion

"Let the world change you and you can
change the world..."
Dagdag pa, "You have to be the change
you want to see in the world"
At tayo, bilang mga CNS ang
pagbabago na nais nating makita sa
mundo.
Wish ko lang mabuhay ako na makita
ang mga pagbabagong minimithi natin
sa ating lipunan. Ayokong mamatay
na "hindi nakikita ang bukang liwayway
na sumikat sa aking Inang bayan." Pero
kung mangyari man yon, nawa'y ang
mga makakakita ng bagong umagang
ito ay ipagdiwang at pahalagahan ito.

to! Noon, ako ay isang starry-eyed,
innocent freshie na apathetic sa mga
nangyayari sa ating bansa.
Ngayon, well, freshie parin ako pero
wala na akong piring sa mata, may
muwang na, at nakikialam na sa mga
isyu na bumabagabag sa mga
mamamayan ng bansa.
Iba talaga dito sa CNS dahil marami
kang matututunang leksyon na wala sa
syllabus ng yong prof, makikilalang mga
kaibigan na lalong magmumulat sau, at
mapapaunlad mo ang mga talentong
meron ka.
Tulad ng sinasabi nila "The best
lessons are often learned outside the
classroom" ! Kaya "Let learning
interfere with your education"
CNS has helped me realize that there
are really things worth standing up for.
Siguro, kalahati ng buhay ko ang
mawawala sakin kung hindi ako
nakasali dito. Somehow life feels fuller
when you know you're fighting for what
you believe in. Salamat sa CNS dahil
tinulungan nito akong panindigan ang
pinaniniwalaan ko.

Diliman! Hehe. We've always been proud
of the Center for Nationalist Studies
because of its unique status as an
activist center. Palagi naming
pinagmamalaki ang mga nagpupunyaging
CNS members. Ako nga, ang pagiging
simpleng CNS member ang ipinagmamalaki
kong credentials dahil bago pa ako
napunta sa kung saan-saan, sa CNS ako
natutong mag-aral, magsaliksik,
pumanig, magsalita, makibaka! I'll
always make it a point to attend the
induction of new members to refresh my
insights on the views of budding social
activists. CNS, the best!
